Top 10 Firenze Foodie Finds

Updated: Jun 4, 2018

Florence is home to some of the best food in Italy and the world. Here are the places and food you gotta try while in our home-away-from-home...

10. Cafe Michelangelo

A place of the locals. Cafe Michelangelo is right off the Piazza Santa Maria Novella. It has some of the best espresso and is home to amazing customer service.

9. Fedora

The chefs and students of our university, Florence University of the Arts (FUA), have compiled a collection of mini masterpieces that are full of flavor and paired with an appealing appearance. Simply the icing on the cake. YUM!

8. All’Antico Vinaio

You will be greeted with a long line that stretches out of this panini store…..BUT your hungry belly will definitely be pleased and satisfied at the end :) For 5 Euro, you can get a panino as big as your face!

7. Gelato de Beyoncé

Aka Gelateria Edoardo, where the mildly famous Beyoncé dined in. Edoardo is home to the Dr. DeMaria’s number one choice for artisan ice cream that’s both vegan and fabulous, and a bit different than our other favorite gelaterias. It also has a great view of the Duomo :)

6. Ditta Artigianale

Artistic flare is always something to be appreciated, but pair that with the delicious tastes and you’re sure to be amazed. Avocado is a rare commodity so it is a refreshing find and positively the best! They also have ice, oh my. Ditta has three locations throughout the city--we love them all!

5. Ganzo

Your PERFECT AND CLASSY FIND FOR LOCAL AND INTERNATIONALLY INSPIRED DISHES.

FUN FACT: The waiters are HOSPITALITY students FROM the FUA and chefs are from our own class!

4. Magnum

I scream, you scream, we all scream for... Magnum! A delicious twist on a classic frozen treat that you will not want to forget. The perfect way to add a little pep to your step.

3. Prosecco

Before Italy, wine came from boxes and bags. Here, in the home of wine, a great discovery was made… Prosecco, or sparkling wine from Italy. From cheap Conad (grocery store) bottles to glasses in fancy ristorantes (including Dr. DeMaria's favorite, Caffe Sant'Ambrogio), it is always satisfying and will leave you feeling giggly! Salute!

2. Anything Pistachio

At any cafe or bakery you go to, you will find an endless amount of pistachio cornetti (croissants), cannoli, galto, and so many other types of pastries that you can only imagine. Be sure to go early because pistachio always sells out fast!

1. Heart-Shaped ‘Za at Gusta

Italian pizza will leave you smiling, crying, dreaming… giving you all of the emotions. At Gusta pizza you can have that in a heart shaped bundle of joy. It is also in Oltrarno, which means it's on the other side of the river from the historic city center. **Pizza best served with Prosecco, by the river, & with great company!

Bonus: Our Apartments

Of course we loooove our Italian food and dining out, but sometimes you need a lil American (bbq), Mexican (taco night), or a PJ dinner. It is also fun to try out our new cooking skills and bond with our roomies :)
